Visiting the dentist can be a nerve-wracking experience for some. That's why, at The Perio Centre, we offer sedation options to enhance your experience and make your visit as comfortable as possible. Sedation can help you relax and feel at ease during your procedure, reducing any discomfort or anxiety you may feel.
 

• Nitrous Oxide: Commonly referred to as "laughing gas," is a mild form of conscious sedation that is frequently used in dental and periodontal care to help you feel more relaxed and at ease during your dental procedure. This sedation method is administered through a small mask that is placed over your nose, allowing you to breathe in a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedation option, and it wears off quickly, allowing you to resume your daily activities immediately after your procedure.
• Oral Sedation: This sedation method involves taking a pill that will help you feel more relaxed and calm. The pill is taken before your appointment, and you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment as the effects can last several hours. Oral pill sedation is safe and effective, but it may not be suitable for everyone. 
• IV Sedation: Also known as "deep or moderate," is a stronger form of sedation that can be administered through an IV line. This sedation method will help you achieve a deeper state of relaxation. Depending on the level required you will still be able to respond to your dentist's requests. IV sedation is safe and effective, but you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment as the effects can last several hours. Currently, at this time, this form of sedation is only offered in another location we work with. If you feel that this is something that you require, please feel free to discuss this with our team. 
• General Anesthesia: For those who require the strongest form of sedation, general anesthesia is the solution. This sedation method involves the use of medications that will put you into a deep sleep, making you completely unaware of the procedure. General anesthesia is a safe and effective option, but it requires careful monitoring and may not be suitable for everyone. Currently, at this time, this form of sedation is only offered in another location whom we work with.
